NYE IN BYRON BAY – MORE ACTS FOR FALLS

Falls have just announced a bunch of pimpin’ acts to ring in the New Year this summer! Dance the night away with all of your friends in a tropical wonderland, on one of Australia’s biggest and most loved rolling natural amphitheaters! The hostess with the mostess, Byron Bay, is getting set for a massive New Year’s Eve.  If you’re after a dose of Vitamin D dropped into an ocean of good times like a fizzing Berocca, look no further than Falls Byron Bay. Counting you down and into 2016 will be THE WOMBATS (new), HILLTOP HOODS, PEKING DUK (new), WAVVES (new), ‘WEIRD AL’ YANKOVIC, ART VS SCIENCE, EL VEZ, BULLHORN & FLEETMAC WOOD! THE WOMBATS have just been added to Byron Bay & Marion Bay and WAVVES & LEON BRIDGES have been added to all shows! Joining an already jam-packed guest list, which includes FOALS, BLOC PARTY, DISCLOSURE, RÜFUS, HALSEY, KURT VILE & THE VIOLATORS, COURTNEY BARNETT, MAC DEMARCO, PAUL KELLY and many more, please also welcome to Falls Byron Bay… PEKING DUK, MIAMI HORROR, TIJUANA CARTEL, BOOTLEG RASCAL, BULLHORN, GOONS OF DOOM, SPIRIT OF AKASHA. JUST ADDED, PLAYING BYRON BAY ONLY: PEKING DUK are masters of the party! Catapulting onto the Australian music scene, the Canberra-bred duo of Adam Hyde and Reuben Styles has captivated fans across Australia and the world with their distinct flavour of indie electronica and exhilarating live sets. Peking Duk got off to a massive start to the year with two singles in the top five of triple j’s Hottest 100 (an amazing feat for their first entry into the countdown!), completed a sold-out Peace, Love & Sweatiness regional tour of Australia, won a Rolling Stone Award for Best Video and now ‘Take Me Over’ featuring SAFIA has achieved double platinum sales. Get ready to see them live at Falls Byron this NYE – making the most of our last few hours with 2015! What to do when you’ve steadily become Australia’s first choice in psychedelic dance adventures? Where to go? MIAMI HORROR had this delightful problem a while ago as they watched their wildly successful debut album Illumination fade slowly into the distance like a Cadillac down Sunset Strip. Tunes like ‘Holidays’ and ‘I Look To You’ will always be classics, but new inspiration was needed and, lo and behold, the Strip was where it lived. Setting up in Los Angeles, the four-piece found renewed life in the year-round Californian sun and emerged with the perfectly titled All Possible Futures. Never off the radar for very long, even after winning just about every conceivable medal in the “go you good thing” Olympics, TIJUANA CARTEL are back with more of their signature dips into world music and club beats. One of the hardest touring bands Australia has seen of late, these vibe kings combine flamenco and slide guitar, MC’s, percussion and live scratching to cross boundaries you never knew existed – it’s one hell of a trip. The Cartel’s latest release is the highly anticipated Psychedelicattessen; a record which provides more evidence of a band constantly looking for a new sound. It follows hot on the heels of last years 24Bit Guitar Orchestra and really makes you wonder if these guys ever actually sleep. Describing themselves as “ghetto-dubsters”, BOOTLEG RASCAL were formed in the back room of a seedy Sydney gig over beers and ideas. The result? Hip-hop infused sonic explorations touching on dub, rock and funk all held together by the silky yet raspy vocals of lead singer Carlos. Much like their label-mates Sticky Fingers, these rascals have cultivated an all in live show that has been pricking up ears all over the country since their debut in 2013. Riding high on the back of their signature single ‘Oh I Know’ (and it’s strangely fancy video) the guys have sold out shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne. Please form an orderly queue if you’re interested in sipping some delicious sonic brews. There’s an old saying, popularised by The Breakfast Club: “you mess with the bull, you get the horns”. What does it mean? Not much really. Mostly that if you do something dangerous, you might get hurt. One dangerous thing you could do at Falls Byron Bay this year would be to miss the crazy, brass based, MC led explosion that is BULLHORN. Formed in 2011, these party animals combine virtuosic musicianship, crazy arrangements, catchy grooves and upbeat rhythms to whip the audience into a veritable frenzy. As adept at creating original tunes as they are at reimagining the likes of Bonobo and Easy Star All Stars, this nine piece behemoth is hell-bent on good times. Behold the formidable presence of Bullhorn! The first lyric on Sydney based party-or-die masters GOONS OF DOOM’s new album is this: “the fleas get high when they suck my blood.” What does that tell you about the pack of reprobates? They’re trouble. Big, big trouble and you should want in on the ground floor. Formed about a decade ago by four guys with a rudimentary grasp of their instruments, the Goons set about kicking goals almost immediately. Their surf / horror / punk rock sound was established on debut album ‘The Story Of Barbie And Ghost’, refined as they went with 2009’s ‘I Hate My Hair And I Want To Die’ and mastered on this years classic ‘Kill The Band’. Unpredictable, undesirable and absolutely unmissable at this year’s festival, it’s Goons Of Doom. SPIRIT OF AKASHA is a brand new Australian film that reaffirms the classic film Morning of the Earth’s ethos, soul and spirit in the present day context, proving its values still have an enduring impact on us all. Produced by noted Australian film-maker Andrew Kidman (Litmus, Glass Love, Last Hope) and mentored by Albe Falzon himself, Spirit of Akasha sets a new benchmark with a creative fusion blending the realms of surfing, music and film making. As part of the project, a number of the musicians who composed and recorded songs for the soundtrack, joined some added artists to record a tribute album to the original Morning of the Earth soundtrack, entitled Reimagined, and makes the perfect companion piece to the brand new Spirit of Akasha soundtrack recording – which we’ll see live at Falls! JUST ADDED, PLAYING BYRON BAY NYE & MARION BAY: A neon coated cross between chaos and Morrissey – THE WOMBATS return to our shores with a new album, a new outlook and a new set of smarter-than-thou classics! These Liverpudlian lads, led by the golden voiced Matthew Murphy, are in rarefied air at the moment. Stone cold indie stompers like ‘Let’s Dance To Joy Divison’, ‘Jump Into The Fog’ and ‘Tokyo (Vampires & Wolves)’ previously saw them take the mantle as your favourite English pop band but their latest album, the stunning Glitterbug, and it’s singles ‘Your Body Is A Weapon’ and ‘Greek Tragedy’ have removed the English from the equation. Just like their deceptively stealthy marsupial namesakes, The Wombats are impossible not to love. JUST ADDED, PLAYING ALL SHOWS: A band born for the summer, WAVVES! Taking energy, insanity, melody and comedy, moulding them into three-minute instant hits. Initially the solo project of frontman Nathan Williams, this San Diego based outfit has evolved (not without a few chops and changes) into a four-headed machine! Focus on the tunes. Focus on ‘King of the Beach’, ‘Afraid of Heights’ and newest tune ‘Way Too Much’. That’s the sweet spot. It’s the caterwauling guitars, thrashing rhythm section and, most of all, the melodic sensibilities of head honcho Williams, that make Wavves such a powerfully chaotic proposition. Forged in the fire set by the likes of Otis Redding and Sam Cooke, Texan soul prodigy LEON BRIDGES is a performer that, at only 26 years of age is still a young man. The depth of passion, time and experience produced when he opens his mouth though, is nothing short of a wonder. Known for his old school sound and matching vintage aesthetics, Bridges first came to prominence after a chance Austin meeting with members of psych blues band White Denim. After cutting his first record, the irresistible Coming Home (the song by the same name also ranked in the Top 10 most viral tracks on Spotify), a massive record label bidding war broke out; eventually won by Columbia. From that point on there has been no stopping Bridges as he travels the globe winning hearts and minds with that unmistakable voice.
